Unlock the Secrets of Smoothness: Master the Art of Wetshaving
Short guide:
- Lather up directly on damp skin or in a bowl.
- Place a razor blade in the razor head, see the video below for the how-to.
- Angle the razor at about 30-40 degrees towards the skin.
- Use a light hand, shave with the hair growth, and use short strokes.
- Rinse with cold water.
- Apply our Aftershave Balm on the shaved area.
Always shave with the hair growth
Always shave in the same direction as your hair grows. Get to know the beard by feeling and analyzing how it grows on the face and neck. This can help you prevent irritation, razor bumps and ingrown hairs. The picture above shows typical directions, but your beard can grow in other directions, it is important that you feel first. You can try shaving in different directions after shaving your hair once. However, the risk of irritation and ingrown hairs increases if you shave against the grain.
Let your hair grow for a few days. Then feel lightly with your fingers by going up and down along the hair strands. You will feel if it tugs more when you “go up” with your fingers, it means that the hair grows down. Most men have beards that grow downward from the sideburns. Some have beards that grow up at the neck and maybe even to the side. So feel, not only with your fingers but also when you shave.
Preparation
The very best and easiest way to prepare for shaving is a shower. The warm water and steam open your pores and soften the hair whiskers. Another effective way to prepare for shaving is to hold a damp, warm towel against the skin for at least one minute. Immediately after, you can massage shaving oil on the skin to get an extra layer of protection and improve the glide of the razor blade.
Lathering up
Now it’s time to create your shaving lather. After the preparations, it is important to spend time building up a good lather with the help of shaving cream and a shaving brush. We recommend using a shaving brush as it lifts the hair strands and softens and exfoliates the skin by removing dead skin cells. The result is a softer, closer and irritation-free shave.
- Rinse your shaving brush with warm water, and then shake off excess water from the shaving brush. The moist shaving brush will help you create a nice and thick lather.
- Spread a little shaving cream on the skin (1-2 about almond-sized clicks) or place inside the shaving brush. Then continue working on the skin with circular motions. Pour on a few extra drops of water on the shaving brush if the foam is too hard. Start shaving when you feel the lather is fluffy and soft enough.
- Set aside the shaving brush and shaving cream. Ensure that the shaving cream is properly closed after use to ensure consistency and durability.
Technique
- Place the razor straight at a 90-degree angle to the skin and angle the razor downwards until the blade hits the skin. This is a 30-45 degree angle for most users (see picture above).
- Work with a light hand. Use short strokes and shave with the grain.
- Do not press on the skin but let the weight of the razor do the job.
When you are done, rinse with lukewarm water and check if you are happy with the shave. If not, do a “second pass,” and lather up again, and do one last finishing touch. When ready, rinse the razor in warm water and wipe it to maintain its shine and durability. Also, do not forget the shaving brush that needs to be washed and left to dry in a moisture-free place.
Finishing
When completely satisfied with your shave, rinse with cold water to close the pores and gently pat yourself dry with a towel. Then moisturize the skin with our aftershave balm.
Tips & Tricks
- We recommend that you do not use the razor blades more than 3-4 times. It keeps them fresh and reduces the risk of skin irritation. The advantage is also that they are very cheap.
